Hey all – just a quick post to let you know that my site is finally back up, at least mostly.

I had *just* gone away for the Memoria Day weekend when I got an email from a collegue asking me if my site was down. Kind of hard to troubleshoot on the road, but found out that yes, my site was down. It had happened before for various reasons, so I figured “no big deal”. By the time I got to my hotel room, powered up the Dell and poked around, I realized it was a much bigger deal…

Turns out, my site wasn’t down for the reasons I’d thought. Of course, I figured, I forgot to secure something and someone got into my site and brought it down. I wish that was the case. Instead it looks like my old host (who shall forever be referred to as the Hosting Company that shall not be named) was actually hacked – pretty severely as it turns out – and almost their entire infrastructure was brought screeching to a halt. Fortunately, the hackers that brought my host down did not bring down the control panel, nor did they bring the database server down, so I was at least able to recover my database. The files, on the other hand, including all my blog pictures and some of my file uploads are gone, floating in the interwebz void left by the hackers. I searched all my media, online storage, and under the mat outside the front door, but was not able to locate a backup of my site, so I am now left to re-create as much of the site as I can from memory and online cached versions of the site.

So… if you pull up a post and the associated images are missing, I apologize. If the content is really important to you, I’ll happily re-create, to the best of my ability, the missing screenshots, but it may take me some time. Most of my demos are stored out on GitHub these days at http://github.com/chriskoenig, so check there and see if you can find what you’re looking for. If not, let me know that too and I’ll do my best to help you out.

Happy blog reading, and sorry for the inconvenience. I’m going to sign off now and create 47 backups of my site and hide them in as many places as I can think of…
